“Are you upsetting yourself?” That’s a question my loving wife asks me from time to time while I’m consuming some sort of news/media.
It’s a question you should ask yourself when you’re consuming information. Or, “Is this helping me?” We’re constantly bombarded with so much crap and negativity, day in and day out. It poisons our thinking. I think some small part of us craves the emotions it stirs up. It can feel oddly satisfying getting worked up into anger or outrage. But that’s only hurting us. If you want to be happy and successful in life, you have to guard your mind. You can’t expect a positive mindset and life if you’re letting a bunch of negativity into your head. This is why I don’t watch the news. I don’t need more fear, anger and sadness. Do you? I very much doubt it. I’m writing this because I just slipped up and while browsing social media, I got sucked into reading some really upsetting articles. There is nothing I can do about the things I read. Reading those articles won’t help me in any way. They just upset me. What a silly waste of time and energy. Now, I’m back to the battle of keeping my mind as positive as I can by feeding it good information and trying to limit the bad. Keep up the good fight and stay positive!
